ODBC、OLEDB等、SQL Server 水準のようです。

これはOffice binary file formatと並んで提供されるようです。

　中期的には、UNIXを含め、Windows, Java環境以外のオフィシャルなドライバの不足するクライアントとの接続性を底上げしてくれる可能性があると期待します。

　先日公開されたSQL Server 2008 RC0日本語版ですが、SQL Server 2005で単体では提供されなくなった、ストアドプロシージャのデバッグ機能が復活しました。

とりあえず sp_who をターゲットにステップ実行等試すことができますので、一度触ってみることをお勧めします。

　うまくすると

パフォーマンス面のメリットがあるけど、裏目にでたらOFFにしてね。と

　単体としては、後述のEdgewood Solutions社のSQL Nitro等存在するようですが、かなりマイナーだと思います。

(少なくとも国内では)

ただアプライアンスの一部という形では、広まっているようなので、認識しておくべきKBだと思います。

>キャッシュだけではレスポンスが向上しにくいプロトコルやアプリケーションもある。Windowsのファイル共有に使われるCIFS（common internet file system）や，データベースに使われるMicrosoft SQL（MS-SQL）の通信が該当する。

　このプロトコル・アクセラレーションの挙動は、TDS enhancerのものですね。

　以上をふまえると、私の意見としては、

・ストアドプロシージャの活用

・SET NOCOUNT ONの確認

による基本性能の確保や

・リモートディスクトップ接続での性能評価

といった代替手段の確保を併用しておくべきだと思いました。
